Crime, crews, and territory roleplay servers.
The focus of GTA 6 gang RP servers is organised crime. Turf wars, gang ranks, criminal economies (drug routes, weapons smuggling, protection rackets), and conflicts between rival crews account for the majority of gameplay. Cartel Chronicles RP and others create an environment where the criminal underworld is at the forefront of the city, with police RP serving as opposition instead of the focus. You can expect a more combat-heavy, politically charged RP experience than you'd get in a balanced civilian city.
Gang RP will only work when the server has systems to enforce meaningful conflict resolution. When gangs randomly kill each other with no RP lead-up, the city devolves into a deathmatch. Good gang RP servers will require an IC reason before any combat occurs, enforce medical RP when someone gets downed, and have admin-mediated 'crew war' systems for organised conflict. Look for servers with public crew war rulesets. Those servers will be the ones capable of doing organised crime RP long-term without burning out.

Jacksonville JuggernautsMost gang RP servers cap crews at 8-20 active members. Crews have ranks (boss, underboss, lieutenants, soldiers, associates). Crews have to apply to be official, which unlocks shared safehouses, gang stash, territory claims, etc. If crews choose to stay "unofficial", they can still exist, but they don't receive as many mechanical benefits. Crews that take anyone who shows up to join rarely last - good crews are choosy with their membership, view it as something to be earned, and foster a real internal culture.
Don't try to start your own crew the moment you arrive. Sign on as an associate with a crew that's already established. Show that you know how to RP and can take orders, and you'll slowly work your way up. Crews that have been around have territory, contacts, and the political ties that make gang RP fun — things a fresh lone-wolf player won't have access to. The quickest way to wash out of gang RP is by skipping this step. You think you can just come in and be some big shot your first week? The city notices you, labels you as a rookie and will ignore you or destroy you.
A gang RP server is centred around organised crime roleplay — crews, turf wars, black markets and conflicts between rival gangs. Police RP exists to balance the scales rather than being the central focus.
Most servers will demand some time spent on the server (usually 50-100 hours played) and admin approval before allowing players to establish recognised crews. Unofficial crews may form before then, but will not benefit from the mechanical features recognised crews receive.
Crew wars are typically admin-mediated. Both crews submit IC justification, admins approve a war window, and members are free to engage the rival crew during that window under defined rules about timing and locations, with set procedures for resolution after the fact.
Most do. Drug routes, dealing, manufacturing and trafficking are all popular gameplay loops. Servers keep track of in-character supply and demand to maintain a balanced economy long-term.
They can attract a more combat-focused crowd, but gang RP itself isn't toxic. If admins actively moderate and enforce clear rules within the city, it will remain civil. If admins are weak, the city will drift into deathmatch RP.
Yes. Civilians build the world gangs operate in - shops, witnesses, victims, neutral ground. Gang RP servers wouldn't survive without civilian RP. Just don't expect the city to be a safe zone.
Protection rackets are where a crew offers a business protection in exchange for regular payment. If the business doesn't pay, expect broken windows, stolen inventory, and maybe even violence. Protection RP works best if the business owner is an actual player, not an NPC.
Posing as a veteran boss in week one. Veterans can spot inexperience a mile away, and they'll either ignore you or chew you up. Pay your dues and start as an associate in an actual crew.
