Police RP servers make law enforcement the foundation of their city. You take a job with the Vice City PD, go on patrol shifts, answer dispatch calls, perform traffic stops and run organised crime investigations. Quality police RP servers enforce realistic protocols — Miranda rights, chain of evidence, court RP for major cases. The best of them collaborate with criminal RP players to create storylines that last months, rather than stopping at one arrest.
When you join most server police departments, you attend their police academy. Academy RP will show you that server's protocols, radio etiquette, traffic stop procedures, use-of-force rules, etc. Police academies will generally take you 1-2 weeks of real-life time to graduate and be allowed to patrol by yourself. Skip the academy and you'll get labelled as the person who doesn't follow protocol, which becomes everyone's problem when your whole department is in a high-risk situation.

Velocity DriftThe majority of police RP consists of patrol: traffic stops, calls for service, suspicious behaviour follow-ups. High-stakes moments may only come up in 10% of shifts. Players that come looking for non-stop shootouts will burn out quickly. Those who remain enjoy the procedural pacing: paperwork, talking with your partner, the long wind-up before you make an actual arrest. Patience is rewarded far more than quick reflexes in police RP.
The best police RP servers are built upon cooperation between LEO and criminal RP players. Each side relies on the other to move storylines forward. Top-tier players on both sides speak OOC about long-form arcs - months-long investigations, undercover jobs, takedowns that have been building for weeks. When there's a lack of cooperation, servers devolve into cops vs robbers. When there's cooperation, they feel like real cities.
Police RP servers focus their roleplay on law enforcement. Players go on patrol shifts, answer dispatch calls, make traffic stops, run investigations, and team up with criminal RP players for long-form storylines.
The majority of servers require it. Academy RP covers the server's specific protocols, radio code, traffic stop procedure, and use-of-force guidelines. It typically takes 1-2 weeks in real time before you're placed on solo patrol.
Servers typically allow only one police character per player, but most allow civilian characters or characters of another role to be played concurrently. Some servers ban playing both sides (playing police characters as well as known criminal characters) to avoid meta-gaming.
Typical ranks: cadet, officer, senior officer, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, chief. Advancement to most ranks requires time served in your current rank as well as admin/chief permission. Some servers use points to determine when you can get promoted.
Detectives investigate cases outside the realm of patrol, such as homicide, organised crime and drugs. The majority of servers lock detective positions behind a large amount of police RP experience and ask you to write up investigations for big cases.
Police RP is mostly routine-based. If you are looking for high-octane mayhem all the time, law enforcement RP isn't for you. If you like partner interactions, drawn-out investigations, and the pace of patrol, you will find some of the best RP here.
Major crimes - homicide, organised crime, big drug busts - are typically run through court RP on serious servers. Player lawyers, judges, and juries (often admin-played) handle the case. Casual servers rarely do court RP.
